Why Ceramic

The most touched surface in your home is usually the least designed.

You touch a light switch or a socket more times a day than almost anything else you own — more than your door handles, more than your kitchen taps. Somewhere along the way that surface became an afterthought: injection-moulded plastic, chosen once by a builder and never considered again.

We treat the ceramic frame the way we'd treat any studio object — thrown, glazed, and fired, then paired with certified electrics so it performs exactly like the standard fitting it replaces.

A switch gets flicked dozens of times a day, by every hand in the house. Glazed ceramic stays cool and smooth under that kind of daily contact — plastic scuffs, yellows, and starts to feel cheap.

High-fired stoneware, three to four times thicker than decorative ceramics. Impact-tested to withstand normal household knocks and the odd dropped plug.

Questions people have before picking a buying path or collection.

Why is this more expensive?+
You're not paying for a switch, you're paying for a design detail that lasts decades and gets noticed every time someone walks into the room. A £2 plastic switch disappears into the wall; this one becomes part of the room's character.
Isn't ceramic fragile?+
Ceramic has been the standard material inside electrical fittings for over a century, precisely because it's hard, heat-stable, and doesn't degrade the way plastic does. Every piece is fired and tested to withstand the everyday knocks a wall switch actually takes.
Will my electrician know how to install it?+
Installation is identical to any standard switch: same wiring, same wall box, same tools. Any qualified electrician can fit it in the time it takes to fit the one you have now.
Will it fit my country's socket standard?+
Every unit is built to the exact spec for your market — Schuko, UK 13A, US NEMA — so it drops straight into your existing wall box with no modification needed.
Is it certified?+
Yes — the electrical mechanism inside every unit is certified to the safety standard required in your region (a certified Schneider Electric mechanism, or your own existing certified mechanism), so the design never comes at the expense of safety.
Is there a heat or fire risk?+
Ceramic is one of the best natural heat insulators there is, which is exactly why it's been used inside sockets for 100+ years. If anything it's a safer bet than plastic, which can soften or discolor under heat.
What if it cracks after installation?+
It's covered by our warranty — if it ever cracks under normal use, we replace it, no argument.
Can I replace just the broken part?+
The ceramic frame and the electrical internals are separate by design, so if the frame is ever damaged you swap the frame alone — no rewiring, no electrician visit, no replacing the whole unit.
Will the color match if I order more later?+
Every batch is checked against a reference standard before it ships, so a switch you order next year matches the one on your wall today.
Isn't it heavier — will it pull out of the box?+
It's mounted with hardware rated for its weight, the same way solid metal and stone-finish plates already on the market are — nothing about the install changes.
I rent — can I even put this in?+
It's a fully reversible swap: keep your original switch, and put it back before you move out. Nothing about the wall or wiring changes.
Can I install it myself?+
Swapping the decorative frame is simple enough for most people to do themselves; for the electrical component, we'd always recommend a qualified electrician, the same as with any switch.
How do I clean it?+
The glazed surface just needs a damp cloth — it won't stain, scratch, or discolor the way painted plastic does over time.
Do you make matching pieces?+
Yes — we're building out a full range so dimmers, USB outlets, and different plate sizes all match, letting you do a whole home in one consistent finish.
Will it arrive broken?+
Every unit ships in packaging engineered specifically for ceramic, so it arrives exactly as it left the workshop.
I've never heard of this brand.+
We're a young company built specifically to bring this level of design to sockets for the first time in the EU/US market — happy to share examples, early customers, or send a sample so you can judge the quality yourself before committing.
Why ceramic instead of a nice metal or wood plate?+
Ceramic has a warmth and tactile quality metal and plastic can't match — it's cool to the touch, doesn't tarnish like brass, doesn't yellow like plastic, and only gets better with age.
Is this just decorative?+
No — ceramic's natural heat resistance and insulating properties are a genuine functional upgrade over plastic, not just a look.
Will this hurt resale value?+
Considered design details like this read as a premium signal to buyers, the same way upgraded hardware or lighting does — it's more likely to help than hurt.
Will it look out of place in my (historic) home?+
It's designed to sit comfortably in both directions — the craftsmanship suits a period property, and the clean lines suit a modern one, so it doesn't fight either style.
